Stem Celebrates 5 Years!

This summer, our small company reached a big milestone: our five year anniversary! It all began in July 2007, when Stem’s founder and president, Steve Matthews, took what he described as a “leap of faith” by leaving the certainty of his role as Knowledge Services Director at Clark Wilson LLP to start his own company, Stem Legal Web Enterprises. Stem’s goal was simple: to help law firms increase online profits and web-driven business opportunities.

Five years later, we’ve certainly accomplished this goal, as we have helped dozens of lawyers, law firms, and other legal organizations thrive online through effective web development, appealing designs, SEO best practices, and well-crafted content.

A lot has happened over the course of Stem’s lifetime, both inside the company and at the intersection of the legal, tech, and marketing industries where we’ve hung our shingle. From our days as a one-man shop to today’s five-person team, there have been milestones worth mentioning around every corner, and what better way to reflect on these milestones than with an infographic prepared by our talented web designer, Laurel Fulford? Below, you’ll find some of the key moments in Stem’s history, accompanied by highlights from the legal marketing and online worlds, with a few goofy ones thrown in for good measure. So, from all of us Stemployees: congratulations, Steve, on five remarkable years of Stem Legal!

  1. Congratulations folks – 5 years is a major milestone. The Canadian legal internets would be an uglier, less advanced, less informative and less interesting place without you!
