Stem clients got autumn off a running start, with a number of launches, media appearances, and firm expansions. Read on for our client highlights in September:
- Product injury firm Hissey Kientz introduced a new service page: a microsite for information on birth defects associated with maternal use of the antidepressant Paxil, side effects of Paxil, news items about Paxil and Paxil-related lawsuits.
- West Palm Beach Criminal Lawyer Ron Chapman posted several new entries on his blog, including one on DUI and work permits, one on privileged communications under Florida law, and another on expert testimony in eyewitness identification. Over at his Florida Criminal Records FAQ site, Mr. Chapman informed readers that a judge cannot deny a request to seal a record only because adjudication was withheld. And on his Federal Crimes FAQ site, Mr. Chapman wrote about how long the police have to wait before they may to try to resume questioning after a person has asked for a lawyer.
- Jack Newton of Law Practice Management software solution Clio published an article in the Texas Bar Journal entitled “Putting Your Practice in the Cloud: A Pre-Flight Checklist”, covering several important factors to consider when assessing a cloud computing provider, such as ethical considerations, encryption, server security, and provider viability, among others.
- Clio also introduced a new product: its new invoice template technology, to assist lawyers and firms to create professional, impressive, and highly customized invoices to reinforce the firm’s branding. The system integrates with Clio’s exclusive collaboration portal, so lawyers and staff can quickly send bills to clients via the Web.
- Canadian law firm Gowlings expanded its presence in Russia and the CIS with the addition of five professionals to its Moscow office. The expansion coincides with the 20th anniversary of the Gowlings Moscow office. The firm welcomes IP lawyers Alexander Christophoroff, Julianna Tabastajewa, Yulia Yarnykh, and Larissa A. Osharina and biotech patent specialist Tatiana Lyu.
- McClanahan Myers Espey LLP was named as class counsel for the class action settlement in Richard v. Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. in the United States District Court for the Western District of Louisiana.
- And Randy McClanahan of McClanahan Myers Espey posted two interesting patent law articles on the firm’s Contingent Fee Blog: one on business method patents infringement cases and the other on patent infringement litigation risks.
- Ed Kaye of Fraser Valley, BC firm Waterstone Law Group began his first term as President of the Board of the Chilliwack Hospice Society, where he has been serving as a director since 2007. The Society is a community-based organization that provides grief counseling and palliative support services to individuals and families.
- Last month on the Arizona Criminal Defense Blog Lawrence Koplow posted a summary of the recent injunction relating to Arizona’s highly publicized immigration bill. This month that post was described by a Texas criminal lawyer as, amidst all the news coverage, “probably the best summary of the issue.”
- BC legal support services provider Dye & Durham kept the local British Columbia legal community updated with a number of industry items, including information about a new Practice Note setting out requirements for filing survey plans, and an updated survey plan certification form.
- The Canadian Corporate Counsel Association, the national voice and forum for in-house counsel in Canada, played in instrumental role in presenting the 2010 Corporate Counsel World Summit in Toronto, which brought together over 250 legal leaders from 14 countries. The highly successful event included discussions on managing multi-jurisdiction litigation, international competition and antitrust laws, corporate counsel liability, operating in emerging markets, and crisis management in the global context.
- Strellis & Field elder law attorney Jonathan Rosenfeld posted numerous new entries on his Nursing Homes Abuse Blog, including one about the troubling presence in nursing homes of patients with active arrest warrants, a listing of Illinois nursing homes with violations in the second quarter of 2010, and the rapid decline of elderly nursing home patients after injuries from falls.
- And Mr. Rosenfeld continues to develop the content and functionality of his Bed Sore FAQs site, including the content of the Bed Sore Resource Center.
- Arizona family firm Nirenstein Garnice Soderquist PLC announced the relocation of their Scottsdale office to the Pinnacle IV building with photos of the new premises.
- New Jersey criminal lawyer John Marshall made several posts to his New Jersey DWI Lawyer Blog, including this one on the kinds of drunken driving, marijuana possession in a vehicle, and drug DUI arrests he typically sees in New Jersey.
- Canadian tax litigators DioGuardi Tax recently uploaded a video to their YouTube channel discussing the implications of the recent disclosure of Swiss bank account holder identities.
- Maureen Canning, Clinical Consultant for addiction treatment center The Meadows, was interviewed recently on Radio Health Journal. The Meadows also has quite a number of offerings in its free lecture series scheduled throughout the fall.
