June has been another busy month for Stem clients, with some noteworthy accomplishments. Here are some highlights:
- The staff of Canadian law firm Gowlings have not forgotten the victims of Haiti’s earthquake, raising $104,541, which the firm went on to match dollar for dollar in a donation to the Canadian Red Cross.
- Brian Fraser of the Toronto office of Gowlings discussed the importance of social media and legal issues arising in social media marketing in an interview with The Lawyers Weekly.
- The Canadian Corporate Counsel Association worked with the McGill International Executive Institute to present a two day seminar on Financial Reporting, Accounting, and Analysis: The Fundamental Tools of Finance and Accounting for Corporate Counsel.
- On his Nursing Homes Abuse Blog, Strellis & Field elder law attorney Jonathan Rosenfeld posted his interesting interview with Mary Nix of EldercareABC in which they discussed positive and negative trends in the nursing home industry, impact on patient care, and suggestions for families who are selecting facilities for the care of their loved ones.
- Over at his Bed Sore FAQs site, Mr. Rosenfeld wrote about the sad case of a nursing home resident who died, apparently from bed sore injuries resulting from neglect, and whose widow is suing for wrongful death, outlining what the facility could have done to prevent his death.
- Arizona family firm Nirenstein Garnice Soderquist PLC partner Carol A. Soderquist, Esq. was appointed Judge Pro Tempore of the Maricopa County Superior Court (Arizona), assigned to probate and family court matters.
- The American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law invited Nirenstein Garnice Soderquist PLC partner Carol A. Soderquist, Esq. to join a panel at their October conference to discuss the topic “Parental Alienation – A New Addition to the DSM-V?”
- Law practice software Clio President Jack Newton spoke about cloud computing applications for lawyers at the Oklahoma Bar Association 2010 Solo and Small Firm Conference.
- Rian Gauvreau, also of Clio, spoke at the Missouri 2010 Solo Small Firm Conference on “How a Practice Management System Can Help You Practice Ethically and Competently.”
- West Palm Beach Criminal Lawyer Ron Chapman was in the press a great deal this month as one of Florida’s longest-running death-penalty cases came to a close.
- Mr. Chapman has also been busy maintaining his blogs, including West Palm Beach Criminal Lawyer Blog, where he recently discussed what constitutes the crime of child abuse in Florida.
- Michael Myers of McClanahan Myers Espey received the honor of being named one of Houston’s “Top Lawyers for Civil Litigation” by H-Texas Magazine.
- At the same time, Randy McClanahan of McClanahan Myers Espey received the honor of being named one of Houston’s ”Top Lawyers for Business Litigation” by the same publication.
- Hissey Kientz LLP added numerous mesothelioma case notes to the Mesothelioma Lawyer Hotline as it continues to build its recently launched legal document databases.
- On the Arizona DUI Defense Blog at the Koplow Law Firm’s Arizona DUI Center, Lawrence Koplow wrote about the home detention program recently approved by the City of Scottsdale, the details of which have yet to be released.
- BC legal support services solution Dye & Durham announced a Twitter feed, @bclawwatch, of its coverage of local legal news on the BC Law Watch blog.
- With the official arrival of summer, New Jersey criminal lawyer John Marshall reminds us on his New Jersey DWI Lawyer Blog that “the same standards which govern drinking and driving on public roads also apply to the operation of watercraft.”
- Canadian tax litigators DioGuardi Tax recently added a smartphone barcode to their website, to which smartphone users may download a free app.
- Senior fellows of The Meadows Addiction Treatment Center are offering several free lectures over the summer.
