Google Reputation Management for Lawyers

My second Web Law Connected column has just been posted over Slaw. The article, titled Top Five Digital Landmines for Lawyers, identifies five situations or events where the ‘online fallout’ can damage a lawyer’s personal brand in Google. In each of these reputation situations, undesirable information shows up prominently in Google when clients & potential clients are searching for a lawyer by name.

The events or situations I noted were:

  1. The Newspaper Story Gone Awry
  2. Blog Attacks
  3. Having a Google Twin
  4. The High Profile Court Case
  5. The Person Web -vs – The Business Web

For a more detailed explanation, please link on over and read the article. :-)

    Hello Steve,

We learned from our online ID calculator that was used by over 30,000 professionals that lawyers have among the lowest GQ scores (Google Quotients) – 4.9 was the average on a scale of 0 – 10.

There are two measures – volume (how much ‘stuff’ there is on the web) and relevance (how consistent the content is with how you want to be known). We have found that it is typically the volume component that brings down the score for lawyers. Personal branding online is critical to success, so understanding your GQ is a great step in the personal branding process.

    Best.
