This recent infographic on Copyblogger caught my eye. Some of these grammar goofs have never tripped me up, but others I have to watch out for – less/fewer is one I find easy to get right in writing, but sometimes I hear myself saying the wrong word out loud. I love it when I ixnay a dangling participle, but know I there are plenty I don’t manage to catch. And while it can be pretty enjoyable to make fun of contestants on The Bachelor who say “I” when they mean “me”, it’s actually a lot of work to train your ear to know which word to use when, especially because they’re so often misused. I suspect I’ll be working on that one for the rest of my life.
I think just being aware of common grammatical errors is half the battle, and that’s why reminders like these are so helpful.
What are your grammatical pet peeves and Achilles’ heels?
